DEPUTY DIRECTOR GENERAL AND HEAD OF THE IAEA DEPARTMENT OF SAFEGUARDS MR. MASSIMO APARO PAID A VISIT TO MONGOLIA
Deputy Director General and Head of the IAEA Department of Safeguards Mr. Massimo Aparo paid a working visit to Mongolia from 26 to 28 May 2025. During the visit, the delegation was received by the Head of the Nuclear Energy Commission of Mongolia, Minister of Mining and Heavy Industry Mr. Tuvaan Tsevegdorj, during which the parties discussed cooperation between Mongolia and the IAEA, including Mongolia’s contribution to the nuclear safeguards system.
The delegation also met with Mr. Munkhtushig Lkhanaajav, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as was briefed on the activities of the Nuclear Research Center of the National University of Mongolia, and delivered a lecture to researchers and students of this university on the topic “Verifying nuclear non-proliferation undertakings: an introduction to IAEA safeguards”.
This visit of the Deputy Director General of the IAEA Mr. Massimo Aparo demonstrates Mongolia’s successful implementation of its obligations under international treaties and played an important role in further expanding cooperation with the IAEA in the field of non-proliferation of nuclear weapons.
