MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS MS. B. BATTSETSEG PARTICIPATES IN THE “HELSINKI+50” INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
H.E. Ms. B.Battsetseg, Member of the State Great Khural (Parliament) and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Mongolia, is attending the international conference “Helsinki+50: Honoring Our Legacy, Shaping the Future”, taking place in Helsinki, Finland, on July 30–31, 2025. The visit is being made at the invitation of H.E. Elina Valtonen, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Finland.
This high-level conference commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Helsinki Final Act, the foundational document of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). Participants are reflecting on the achievements in regional peace, security, and cooperation over the past five decades and engaging in forward-looking discussions on the challenges, opportunities, and strategic directions for the next 50 years.
Mongolia became the OSCE’s fifth Asian Partner for Cooperation during the 12th Ministerial Council held in Sofia in December 2004 and subsequently joined the organization as its 57th participating State in November 2012. Today, the OSCE remains the world’s largest regional security organization, comprising 57 countries across Europe, Central Asia, and North America.
As part of the conference program, Minister B.Battsetseg served as a speaker in the panel discussion titled “How to Strengthen the Credibility of the Core Principles of European Security?”. She highlighted Mongolia’s foreign policy objectives and initiatives aimed at fostering peace and security in the region and shared the country’s contributions to strengthening cooperation within the OSCE framework.
On the sidelines of the event, Minister B.Battsetseg held a bilateral meeting with OSCE Secretary General H.E. Feridun Sinirlioğlu. During their discussion, she reaffirmed Mongolia’s strong support for the OSCE’s core principles and activities and expressed confidence that the anniversary event would serve as a meaningful platform to adapt the Organization to modern challenges and enhance its institutional credibility.
She further underscored that Mongolia’s membership in the OSCE aligns closely with its national security strategy and foreign policy priorities. She emphasized the importance of cooperating with democratic “third neighbours” in strengthening regional security and building political trust.
Secretary General F.Sinirlioğlu commended Mongolia’s active engagement within the OSCE and highlighted the country’s valuable contributions to regional security cooperation, particularly in promoting women's participation in society and efforts to combat terrorism.
