Certification and Legalization

The Embassy of Mongolia in Vienna provides certification of Powers of Attorney and legalization of Powers of Attorney and Declarations certified by Austrian notaries, for official use within the territory of Mongolia.

 

Key Considerations

  • Pursuant to Article 15.1 of the Civil Code of Mongolia, individuals under the age of 18 do not have legal capacity. Applicants must therefore be at least 18 years of age to obtain notarial services from the Embassy of Mongolia.
  • Clients and signatories must present valid identification, such as a passport or national ID card.
  • Foreign nationals wishing to issue a Power of Attorney through the national notarial system must be accompanied by an interpreter.
  • The Consular Section verifies the signatures of foreign nationals only where the document is intended to take effect in Mongolia.

 

Legalization Procedure

To legalize a Power of Attorney, Declaration certified by an Austrian notary, the following steps must be completed in sequence:

  1. The Power of Attorney or Declaration must first be certified by a local notary.
  2. The notarized document must then be certified by the competent municipal authority of the respective Land (state).
  3. The document must be certified by the Consular Department of the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs.
  4. Finally, the document will be legalized by the Consular Section of the Embassy of Mongolia to become legally binding.
